Hiji Nam is a PhD candidate in Psychology at the CUNY Graduate Center, and a clinical candidate in the Child, Adolescent, and Adult programs at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR).
Her research centers on psycholinguistics, language socialization, and the history of psychoanalysis and science. Research interests include: “post-monolingualism,” translation, intersubjectivity, and the mother tongue; ethnographies of communication and the social reproductive labor of mothers and children; speech communities, temporality, and proprietary nationhoods and families.
In addition to her clinical and academic work, she is a writer who has contributed to publications including Artforum, Bookforum, and various artist catalogues. She lives in New York.
